HIKING
The community of Hollersbach lies at the entrance to the Hollersbach Valley within the Hohe Tauern National Park. Enjoy fantastic excursions to the National Park in summer. Covering 1,836 km², it is the largest conservation area in Central Europe.
You will encounter a breathtaking variety of flora and fauna. Hike through meadows of ferns to the highest waterfalls in Europe, which are also the fifth highest in the world. Watch as the water thunders down 380 m into the Krimmler Achental valley.
On the Kitzbühel Alps side to the north of the Obere Salzach River, you can take the new Panoramabahn lift up to the Resterkogel at 1,894 m. This gives you access to even more hiking routes – in Salzburg province and beyond.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Rösslhof makes an ideal base for mountain bikers, as the Tauern cycle path runs right past our guesthouse. If you don’t want to bring your own mountain bike, you can simply hire one of ours. In the region around Hollersbach, you will find cycling and mountain bike tours to suit all abilities: multi-day tours, high-altitude rides, single trails, family cycle paths – 1,000 km of signposted routes with stunning views guaranteed.
LAKES AND SWIMMING POOLS
The mountain valleys of the Hohe Tauern are home to beautiful lakes with an exceptionally high quality of water. The lake Hintersteiner See up at 1,313 m in the Felber Valley, for instance, formed after a rock fall in 1495 and is crystal-clear, right down to a depth of 10 m.
If you feel like having a splash around on a hot summer’s day, why not try out Hollidee lake? Guests at Rösslhof have free entry to the lake, which is near our guesthouse. The complex features a special kids’ swimming area, an adventure playground with a pirate ship, slide tower, swings and rope bridge, as well as a nature pond. There is also a beach volleyball court and a small skate park.
SPOILT FOR CHOICE
It goes without saying that the varied landscape is ideal for a whole host of summer activities. The Hohe Tauern are a challenge for CLIMBERS, the wide Salzach Valley is perfect for PARAGLIDING, HORSE RIDES through the lush meadows are good for the soul, while the many white water rivers are great for CANYONING and RAFTING.
EXCURSIONS, CULTURE AND EVENTS
If you are planning an active holiday and want to explore the region properly, the SalzburgerLandCard is just the ticket. It offers free admission to 190 attractions in the province and town of Salzburg. Depending on your plans, you can buy a 6 or 12-day card.
HARVEST FESTIVAL Autumn is a time for tradition and remembering the roots of the farming way of life. When the summer is over, the cows are (hopefully) all safely back from the mountain pastures and the harvest has been gathered in, we pay homage to and celebrate the bounty of nature with a harvest festival and a decorative procession of livestock.
At this time of the year, in particular – Indian summer and autumn – the sun bathes the trees in a golden light, making the mountains even more spectacular than usual. Contemplation and relief go hand in hand: an atmosphere that transforms hiking into a meaningful ritual.
HOLLERSBACH: FAMOUS FOR ITS HERBS The use of herbs has a long tradition in the Alps – to keep people healthy and in tune with nature.
Hollersbach, the village famed for its herbs, wants to pass on this knowledge of medicinal and spice plants. You can find over 500 different varieties of plants in the newly laid out Hollersbach herb garden. Have a nibble and explore!
PAINTING WEEKS Hollersbach has been actively involved in art and culture for 20 years. With the Painting Weeks at the Kramerstall art gallery in August, the festival in Hollersbach attracts international artists to take part in various workshops, hold discussions and perhaps even take home the prize worth EUR 1,100.
